 [P?] Washington City D.C. 7
time after we entered the service, I saw Jacob McKenney on the street and he told me the Levant boys wer all well.
8th I went on guard. We lay in the city untill 4 o'clock P.M. and then started acros the long bridge into Va for the first time, [?] still on to Arlington Heights. We lay near Fort Crage that night. Colonal Ames was disgusted with our appearanse and gave us a brief speach as he halted us, saying if we could not do better than that we had better desert. 9th Near night we moved acrost a small creek onto a hill and went into camp forthe night. 10th We cleard of our camp ground and while I was at work carelessly got hold of some poison oak which made me sick for a week. I was swolen so that I had to be excused from duty. There was quite a number of others in the same condition. 11th In the morning the orders came to get ready to move. We packed up and was waiting for the order to move. I could scarsly see out of my eyes, on account of my face being swolen so bad.
