Remonstrance of Alfred Lithgow & als agst the petition of Benja Prescott & als - " of Rufus Hill & als agst the petition of John M Hale & als were severally read & referred to the Committee on Turnpikes, Bridges & Canals). Sent up for concurrence.

Petition of Samuel Wheeler & als to be incorporated by the name of the St Croix Steam Navigation Company were read & referred to the committee on Manufactures. Sent up for concurrence.

Petition of George Weymouth & als praying for a division of the County of Hancock, and the formation of a new county by the name of Waldo was read & referred to the committee on the incorporation of towns. Sent up for concurrence.

Ordered that Messrs Sewall of Edgecomb, Smith of Nobleboro & Page of Readfield be a committee to enquire what alterations are necessary to be made in the Laws of this State respecting the office of Sheriff of Sheriffs fees & read & passed.

Ordered that the joint standing committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire whether any alteration is necessary in an act additional to an act respecting Engine Men, fire engines, and the extinguishment of firer passed March 3d 1826 - read & passed. Sent up for concurrence
