Dear Sister,

Your letter of June 16th I received. I received one from Mother dated June 9th, one from Father- June 29th and one from sis June 30th. I wrote to you June 22nd and to Mother July 6th. I was quite sick at that time but have got well again. The health of the 16th is steadily but slowly improving here. I lost one more by death the day before we left Hilton Head and night before last - Leander Martin died. He died suddenly from the effects of sun stroke. He fell asleep in the sun, and while asleep his cap came off his head. All of the Hope boys excepting Corporals Dunton and Cotton are on duty. Neither of these are much sick. Our Regt. attended divine service at the Baptist church today. It is a spacious building and with our Band to furnish the music we had a very pleasant time. This is a grand place. There are a great many large and splendid buildings - such as you would find among the best in a city of 30000 inhabitants. The streets are lined and the dwellings
