Tuesday, January 12, 1836. Order from the House of Representatives, instructing the Committee on the Judiciary to inquire into the expediency of fixing, by law, the period for the execution of criminals, condemned to death, not exceeding one year from the time of passing sentence upon them, read and on motion of Mr Purinton ordered that when the question is taken on the passage of said order, it shall be by yeas and nays. and the same on motion of Mr Fish was ordered to lie on the table.
