On motion of Mr Purinton, Ordered that the Joint Standing Committee on Literature and Literary Institutions be instructed to inquire into the expediency of fixing by law, some mode of securing faithful and prompt returns, by the Selectmen of the several towns, Alderman of Cities and Assessors of Plantations of their number of scholars &c. as now required by an Act of the 11th of March 1834: and also to fix the compensation of Superintending School Committees, and to report by Bill or otherwise, Sent down for concurrence.
