270. the petition of the town of Scarborough and the accompanying papers --- read and passed, in concurrence and the report and papers were accordingly sent to the House.

Resolve in favor of Henry Bickford (reported in the House by the Committee on Military Pensions, on petition of Henry Bickford) was read once and indefinitely postponed. Sent down for concurrence. Concurred.

A communication from the Secretary of State, submitting to the Legislature an "Abstract of the returns of the Blind in this State," made to the Secretary's Office in pursuance of a Resolve of the last Legislature, came up from the House referred to a Select Committee. The Senate nonconcur with the house in said reference and refer the same to the Joint Select Committee that have under consideration so much of the Governor's Message as relates to the subject of an Insane Hospital and Asylum for the Blind. Sent down for concurrence. Concurred.

Bill additional relating to Engine men was read the second time and passed to be engrossed. Sent down for concurrence.

Bill additional to promote the sale and settlement of Public Lands (reported with sundry amendments by Mr. Farnham from the committee on Bills in the second reading to which committee said Bill had been recommitted for further examination and correction, - which amendments were adopted, and said Bill was further amended. Mr. Chandler moved to strike out the eighth section, and the question of thus striking out, being
