Tuesday Apr 18th We went down town to see our lamented president, but thair was such a throng of people that half of the them could get admitence to the White House.

19th The funeral sermon of the president was preached this P.M. but I did not feel like going. I went back in the country to take a walk. Salutes are being fired most all this P.M. I cannot get any letters from the regt. 20th A rainy morning. I went down to the capital to see the remains of President Lincoln and he looks as natural as life. I saw a pair of buckskin horses that I felt sure I drove in maine in 1859. 21st No news of importence. 22d I got 8 letters the first I have recd since I came from the regt. I herd that [?] Gray was an orderly at the war department. 23d Col C D Gilmore [Charles D. Gilmore] and Capt J F Land [Joseph F Land] came to see me. The Capt has just come from home and appears to be unwell. 24th I heard from the regt Corpl Morison and Gilmore have more shot in action. 25th An inviled shot a cow that belonged to a woman near the hospital
