� Williamsburgh 6 Feby 1827 Mr Wm Carleton Sir I have recd your letter of 9th Jany, enclosing seven Dollars to discharge the taxes on J Erwins land which I will see is done, without any costs to him. It was not intended nor expected [inserted] to make any cost on his, but we thought best to advertise this whole for certain reasons -- I shall charge nothing for my trouble -- The letter which I mentioned respecting an exchange was dated 11th Oct 1825, + put in the mail the same day. As it contained a rect for his taxes that year I think you must have received it or you would have been likely to have inquired farther for the receipt -- but as you did not recollect it [inserted] it may not come to light again I now enclose a copy of it -- that you may judge whether the bargain be desirable - perhaps I should now make some variation and the number or description of the Majors -- You will observe that I should not make the proposition for the sake of the land for it would be worth very little to me, but I am disposed to accommodate Mr Erwins as far as I can + thought that he might find a sale for the Majors, in New Hampshire, more to his advantage than to keep the land -- Please to let me hear from you soon -- In great haste Both respects yours + M G.
