I have not recd any offer the land nor do I know of any desires to buy it, but, as I wrote before, if Mr Erwins will name his lowest price + terms I will see if I can get someone to take it -- The asking price for least [underlined[ lots in this region is about 2.00 to 2.50 per acre, which is about the same that it was 20 years ago -- but no sales are made of any consequence. The current of settlement being altogether at Penobscot river + on the cart side + so over to [?] In this direction there is abundance of least [inserted] land which may be had for one dollar down to thirty cents per acre, + as the State is continually throwing more land into the market than there is demand, for the price can not rise very soon -- Mr Erwins lot is not first quality [comment in parentheses stricken] and if it was it could hardly be expected to sell without a loss very soon -- no effective sales have been made in this town for several years + not a Dollar of payment made for [something stricken] many years [inserted] some are [?] + moving out + no prospect of any coming in -- the only chance for a sale is that some might be induced to take it for the sake of a low price + easy payment -- I have not received the money that from [?] + [?] [inserted] for [something stricken] but have paid them up + have the collectors receipts - the whole amount of State County Town + Highway taxes from the current year [inserted] was ten dollars 91 cents -- This year I can not tell what they will be as I have declined all town business, but there was not so much money raised + the taxes therefore will [something stricken[ be less -- very respectfully your obt srvt MG-
