Genl. Slocum's letter to Stanton about Fitz John's Generalship on the 27th ult is strong and scathing. Head thinks the General will be challenged for it, whereat the Genl. declares he will accept although he don't believe in such things. He evidently feels the loss of his 2000 -- And I don't blame him.
