[page 724] Ques. Is it your opinion that with the judgment of the officers in the hospital such as it is, and their opinion of the fitness and usefulness of a woman physician, that a woman physician could be kept in that hospital. Ans. I think there would be trouble the way things are there now. I would try it any way. Ques. When a patient becomes so low, so thoroughly demented as to be careless of himself, and has some ordinary disease come upon him, is he treated there, thoroughly as a sane man would be. Ans. You can hardly answer the question in that way. It comes under my general answer that I do not think the patients receive the care there that they ought to have. All these that were put into the sick room soon to be treated well. I speak with reference to my own side, I do not speak with particular reference to the other. By Mr. Baker Ques. Why did you not give them the requisite amount of attention if they did not have it before. Ans. I did give them all I could, I was not superintendent. Ques. Did the male patients under your charge have sufficient attention medically. Ans. Yes sir. Ques. Did those under Dr. Sanborn's charge.
