Probably would not have been discharged on the mere charge of reporting; I dont suppose I should have staid [stayed] there long. Q. Discharged by the superintendent? A. I dont know who discharges or who does not Q. Who employed you? A. Mr. Lakin I think. Q. Did you think he would discharge you if you reported abuses? A. As I said before, I thought I would not stay there a great while if I reported abuses. Q. Did you ever know a man to be discharged from that institution for reporting abuses? A. No sir.
