[page 824] By Mr. Baker Ques. Was there any vote of the faculty after this, a vote taking the young man back. Ans. Not on the record. Previous to that there was an entry that these two person be informed that unless there is a decided reformation in their conduct they will be suspended; that was ten days previous. Ques. The indefinite suspension was not at all due to rank but due to conduct in this case. Ans. All taken together. We seldom suspend one on account of his rank until the close of the term. Ques. Had you personally to do with the stating of the reasons on paper to his parents. Ans. The president did that, I never saw the letter. Ques. Was the esteem felt in the college for the parents of the young man, and the care of the faculty to spare their feelings as much as possible one of the chief reasons for taking him back. Ans. It was one reason. Ques. If it is a fact that three days afterwards the president said he might come back, it was because he was willing he should come back. Ans. I suppose that is a question anyone can answer, as well as myself.
