Mr Strickland announced to the Board that Jonathan Swift, Senator elect from the eleventh Senatorial District was present and ready to take and subscribe the necessary oaths. He was conducted by Mr Strickland to the Governor and Council, before whom he took and subscribed the oaths required by the Constitution to qualify him to enter upon the discharge of his official duties and tack his seat at the Senate Board.
A communication was received from Asa Redington Jr. Treasurer of State, exhibiting the state of the finances - read, and the same, on motion of Mr Mildram, was referred to a Joint Select Committee, consisting, on the part of the Senate, of Messrs Mildram, Severance, and Burr with such as the House may join. Sent down for concurrence, came up and Messrs Fox of Portland, Ames of Prospect, Tabor of Vasselboro, Hamlin of Hiram, McLellan of Eastport, Fletcher of Thomaston & Brooks of York were joined in concurrence.
