This study suggests that this paper electrode has potential applications in supercapacitors with high performance and durability.The accelerated increase in freshwater demand, particularly among populations displaced in remote locations where conventional water sources and the infrastructure required to produce potable water may be completely absent, highlights the urgent need in creating additional freshwater supply from untapped alternative sources via energy-efficient solutions. Herein, we present a hydrophilic and self-floating photothermal foam that can generate potable water from seawater and atmospheric moisture via solar-driven evaporation at its interface. Specifically, the foam shows an excellent solar-evaporation rate of 1.89 kg m-2 h-1 with a solar-to-vapor conversion efficiency of 92.7% under 1-Sun illumination. The collected water is shown to be suitable for potable use because when synthetic seawater samples (3.5 wt %) are used, the foam is able to cause at least 99.99% of salinity reduction. The foam can also be repeatedly used in multiple hydration-dehydration cycles, consisting of moisture absorption or water collection, followed by solar-driven evaporation; in each cycle, 1 g of the foam can harvest 250-1770 mg of water. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a material that integrates all the desirable properties for solar evaporation, water collection, and atmospheric-water harvesting. Amino acid transporter inhibitor The lightweight and versatility of the foam suggest that the developed foams can be a potent solution for water efficiency, especially for off-grid situations.OBJECTIVES The drug-resistant seizures are characterized by frequent and severe onset of seizures in childhood. There is only little literature had extensively explored the types of pathological brain damage in Chinese children cases. The present study aims to investigate the histopathologic findings and seizure outcomes of drug-resistant seizures in cases of 0-14-year-old children. MATERIALS AND METHODS About 232 children cases were retrospectively who underwent epilepsy surgery. The medical records, onset age, age of surgery, disease course, seizure type, pathological reports, and seizure outcomes of these patients were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS The most common categories were malformations of cortical development (focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) was the most common type (94.36%, 67/71), found in 30.60% of the patients, tumors in 18.11%, glial scar in 12.50%, and encephalitis in 11.63%). It was found that the effective seizure outcome of FCD cases with shorter duration of epilepsy ( less then 2 years, 87.23%) was better than that with longer duration (≥2 years, 60.00%) and the difference was statistically significant (χ2  = 4.76, p  less then  .05). Patients with FCD I, FCD II, and tumor showed the relatively better postsurgical seizure outcome than patients with other pathological types. CONCLUSION The malformations of cortical development (MCD) (most FCD) were the most common pathological type for children cases in China with drug-resistant seizures. It was speculated further that the FCD patients with shorter duration of epilepsy before surgery seem to have a higher ratio of being seizure-free after surgery. © 2020 The Authors. Morbidity and mortality of patients with T2DM are gradually increasing, while prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) among these patients is almost 14% greater compared to the general population. Arterial stiffness is nowadays a valuable biomarker of CVD and a promising treatment target in specific patient groups, including those suffering from T2DM. Despite that fact, design of the available studies cannot prove causal relationship. Recently, a new antidiabetic drug class, namely sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors, has attracted scientific interest, due to their multiple, beneficial, pleiotropic effects, especially those focused on CVD. There is limited relevant literature concerning the effects of SGLT-2 inhibitors on arterial stiffness, while retrieved results might be considered as conflicting. The aim of the present review article is to summarize acquired knowledge regarding the prognostic role of arterial stiffness in T2DM, along with the presentation of retrieved data on the potential role of SGLT-2 inhibitors. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Using self-reports and blood samples from 225 unselected Danish first trimester pregnant women, the purpose of this study was to assess their use of stimulants, for example caffeine and nicotine as well as over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription drugs. According to self-reported information, 24% had used prescription drugs and 48% had used OTC drugs mainly acetaminophen (42%), 9.3% were habitual smokers, 44% stated a daily use of caffeinated beverages, and 1.3% used illegal drugs. Ultra-performance liquid chromatography with high-resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-HR-TOFMS) analysis was performed on corresponding blood samples applying golden standards for use of UPLC-HR-TOFMS in forensic medicine. Traces of prescription drugs were detected in 5.3% of the samples and 8.9% contained OTC drugs (acetaminophen 7.1%). Traces of smoking were identified in 8.0%, caffeine in 83% and illegal drugs in 0.9%. These results indicate a substantial use of OTC drugs and caffeine among Danish pregnant women. Blood analysis indicated that many women could be unaware of their caffeine intake. As common substances may be associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes, healthcare professionals should inquire about such habits during pregnancy. The results also underline the need for more research into the molecular effects of such drugs on placental function and foetal development. © 2020 Nordic Association for the Publication of BCPT (former Nordic Pharmacological Society).BACKGROUND In June 2017, an outbreak of the highly pathogenic avian influenza A(H5N8) was detected in commercial poultry farms in South Africa, which rapidly spread to all nine South African provinces. OBJECTIVES We conducted active surveillance for the transmission of influenza A(H5N8) to humans working with infected birds during the South African outbreak. METHODS Influenza A(H5N8)-positive veterinary specimens were used to evaluate the ability of real-time PCR-based assays to detect contemporary avian influenza A(H5N8) strains. Whole genome sequences were generated from these specimens by next-generation sequencing for phylogenetic characterization and screening for mammalian-adaptive mutations. RESULTS Human respiratory samples from 74 individuals meeting our case definition, all tested negative for avian influenza A(H5) by real-time PCR, but 2 (3%) were positive for human influenza A(H3N2). 54% (40/74) reported wearing personal protective equipment including overalls, boots, gloves, masks, and goggles. 94% (59/63) of veterinary specimens positive for H5N8 were detected on an influenza A(H5) assay for human diagnostics.
