Message from the Senate by Mr Sewall their Secretary.
[Choose Secretary of State]
"Mr Speaker,
The Senate propose that the two houses, when in convention this day at 11 o'clock proceed to the choice of a Secretary of State" The House concurred and the Clerk war charged with a message to acquaint the Senate therewith.
[Committee to inform Governor of his election]
An order came from the Senate appointing Messrs Tallman & Bond with such & a committee to wait on Albion K. Parris Esq and inform him that he has been duly elected Governor of the State of Maine for the ensuing political year, and that the two branches will convene in the Representatives chamber, at his convenience to qualify him agreeably to the Constitution. The House concurred and Messrs Nowell, Jones and Leach were joined.
[Edw Killeran Esq elected Senate to fill vacancy]
[Amos Nichols elected Secretary of State.]
Agreeably to assignment the two houses met in convention and proceeded to ballot for a Senator to fill the vacancy in the County of Lincoln - and on counting the ballots it appeared the whole number given in was 145 - necessary to a choice 73 - Edward Killeran Esq had 129 and was declared elected. The convention also balloted for a Secretary of State and on counting the ballots it appeared Amos Nichols Esq had the whole number given in and was unanimously chosen. The Senators then withdrew.
[Report of committee on Returns & Votes for Governor -]
The Joint committee appointed to examine the returns of votes for Governor reported that the whole number of votes given in was 221800, necessary, to a choice 11091 that Albion K Parris Esq had 15476 and is duly chosen - they further reported
