[Committee - public records to be kept at seat of Government.]

McDonald & Kelleran with such as the House & a committee to inquire into the expediency of providing by law that all the public records shall be kept in offices at the seat of Government, for concurrence - and the House concurred & joined Messrs Merrill, Carleton & Larrabee.

Agreeably to assignment the two branches of the Legislature convened in the Representatives chamber at 12 o'clock and proceeded to the choice of seven counselors by ballot - and on counting the ballots it appeared the whole number given was 151 necessary to a choice 76 - Isaac Lane had 134 - William Chandwick had 148 - James Mlellan had 147 - Joshua Gage had 152 - Daniel Merrill had 119 - Elias Stowell had 145 & Jonathan Farrar had 143 and they were severally chosen.

The committee appointed for the purpose reported that they had contracted with Moses Davis & perform the duty of Door Keeper and also to provide a Page at the sum of 4 $ per day.

A communication was received from Amos Nichols Esq notifying his acceptance of the Office of Secretary of State.

Mr Williams from the committee appointed to ascertain what provision if any in necessary to enable creditors to obtain satisfaction of Executions levied through mistake upon real estate not belonging to the debtors - reported a Bill - report accepted.
