Ordered that Messrs Quinnam, Sturdivant, Spring of Saco, Ricken & Richardson be a committee to receive sort & count the votes for a Clerk - and the votes being counted, it appeared the while number given in was one hundred & thirty eight - necessary for a choice, seventy - James L Child Esquire of Alna, had One hundred & thirty seven, and was chosen. He appeared and signified his acceptance of that office and took and subscribed the following oath which was administered to him by the Chairman - " I James L Child elected Clerk of the House of Representatives for the State of Maine for the current year, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully & impartially discharge the duties of that office awarding [?] to my best ability and discretion. So help me God."

[Benja Green]

Ordered that Messrs Ruggles, Bailey, Sheppard, Chase & White be a committee to receive sort & count the votes for a Speaker - and the votes being counted it appeared the whole number given in was one hundred and thirty six - necessary to a choice sixty eight - Benjamin Green Esq of South Berwick had one hundred & twenty six and was elected. He signified his acceptance of that office in a neat and vert appropriate address and took the Chair.

Mr Williams was charged with a message to the Senate to inform them of the organization of the House by the election of Benjamin Green Esq Speaker and James L Child Esquire Clerk.

Mr Dane was charged with a similar message to the Governor.
