of a Treasurer of State - and on counting the ballots it appeared the whole number given in was one hundred & fifty four - necessary to a choice seventy eight - Elias Thomas Esquire had One hundred & fifty three and was declared duly elected. The Senate then withdraw.

Ordered that the Senate be requested to send to this House the Bill providing for the preservation of the South West Bend Bridge in Durham with all accompanying papers, on their last years files - read & passed.

Remonstrance of Arthur McLellan & others against the petition from the town of Portland for authority to subscribe for stock in the Cumberland & Oxford Canal Stock - was read & referred to Messrs Dane, Parsons of Edgecomb & Quinnam
[Committee - appropriate public lands ro aid schools &c]
Ordered that Messes Francis, Movill, Britton, Parlin & Chase of Livermore, be a committee to consider the expediency and practicability of appropriating a portion of the public lands belonging to this State, for the purpose of aiding in support of schools in those town which have not received any benefit from lands granted by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for said purpose, with leave to report by resolve or otherwise - read & passed.
