[Committee - punishment of crimes &c -]

An order came from the Senate for concurrence directing the committee on new trails to enquire what alterations are necessary in the several laws relating to the punishment of crimes - & the House concurred.

[Righteous of Counsellor]

A communication was received from John Balkan Esquire signifying his acceptance as a Counsellor the ensuring political year.

[Petition]

Petition of Eliashed Adams & als of Bangor & vicinity for the establishment of a Bank at Bangor to be called merchants Bank was read & referred to the committee on Banks & Banking. Sent up for concurrence.

Ordered that this House will not sustain any petition that shall be presented after Wednesday next - read & passed.

[Refreshment for militia]

Ordered, that the committee on military affairs, be instructed to enquire into the expediency of providing by law for furnishing the militia at the expense of the towns to which the several companies belong with suitable refreshment on days of Brigade or Regimental Inspection - read & passed.

[Committee. Hawkers, Pedlars &c]

Ordered that Messrs Shaw, Cobb & Smith with such as the Senate may join, be a committee to take into consideration the expediency of amending the law, entitled an act agst Hawkers & Pedlars & Petty Chapman - read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.
