�I Francis W. Appleton of Mount Desert in the County of Hancock do honestly testify & say that, on or about the month of September 1777, according to the best of my recollection I inlisted into the Revolutionary war in Capt Perkins Company & Col Greenes Regt., O , ( [?] then of the State of Pensylvania) for three years : I joined my Regt at Philadelphia: I was at the Battle at Brunswick: at the Battle of the Brandy Wine : at which place I was taken prisoner and arrived to Philadelphia: I made my escape from that place : And I requested to ship out aboard the Untied States Ship, the Warrior of Capt John Hopkins being about eighteen months after my said inlistment: I served on board this ship four months, being her first exercise: I then shipped on board again, six months: We engaged the British ship the Rainbow [underlined], in which action I was wounded in the head: I served out this time I was discharged in Boston: In the Autumn of 1782, I shipped on board the South Carolina Frigate [all three underlined] Capt Jamison for six months: We were captured by the British Ship Incheco [underlined?], Diamond [underlined?], and others: was carried into New York: where maintained a Incarceration till thru the end of the War. I have lost my discharge -- I am now under circumstances. I need the assistance of my Country for support--------- Francis W Appleton
