[page 928] that one of the attendants was away at her dinner because she stated so to me, where the other attendant was I was not quite positive, but I thought when the accident occurred she was where she could not help and that the patient was left in such a condition that this violent woman could attack her and did attack her. The principal attendant stated to me that this was at dinner time and that she knew nothing about it till the next morning after breakfast, and therefore I concluded that she must have fled to her room and staid [stayed] till she went in and found her the next morning. Ques. Did you not also state that she staid [stayed] in her room without her clothing being removed till the next morning. Ans. I inferred that from what the attendant told me. Ques. Did you state on your direct examination that this was all hearsay that you got it from what other people told you. Ans. I meant to Mr. Pettangall. You certainly did not give that impression.
