Witness: I should like to make an explanation of one item of testimony that was not correct; that is about going into the back door. I have refreshed my memory in reference to that case and I remember there was one case when I did that. And I will tell you the case. I was passing by that door and very near the windows of the hall of this lady when I heard screams that I recognized as being very natural, and without thinking for a moment whether it was proper or not, and feeling that I could get to that room quicker that way than any other, without any consideration, ran up that way and knocked and was admitted, and came down. I think that is the only time when I ever went up that way, and that was from an impulse, not considering that it might not be proper to go in by that door. I remember that
