It is not designed to be a substitute for lawyers services, but to info rI!l women of their legal rights so that they will know when to consult a lawyer or a govermental agency for assistance in enforcing 1 these rie;hts 1 ; "The Handbook for and About Working Women in Maine", researched by Marilyn (Jo) Josephson, published in 1978 by the Maine Comaission for Women in conjunction ·with the Department of Manpm..rer Affairs . This handbook helps women to identify who the working women are, \vhere they A.re working, where the jobs are, and the advantages or disadvantages in particular areas of the job market. A donation of $1.00 per booklet is asked to cover postage and handling. ',./HAT IS THE COMMISSION DOING -
The Commission has received funding from the 109th Le~islature for the first time in its existence. This funding will enable the Commission to hire staff which will assist them to fulfill their legislative mandate. Our goals are to represent all the women of Maine and to hear direct ly from them as to what are their concerns. On January 12 , '1980 in Portland and January 26, 1980 in Bangor, the Commission will sponsor a non-partisan workshop for women interested in be c oming involved politically. This workshop is customarily called " id inning \Ji th \J omen 1~.
