Mr Wheeler came with a message from the Senate to inform this branch, of their organization by the election of Benjamin Ames Esqr President and Charles B Smith Secretary of the Senate.

Jonathan Britton Esqr the member from Otisfield &c appeared, presented his credentials, was qualified &c took his seat.

[returns of members to be examined -]

Ordered that Messrs Williams, McIntire, Joseph Adams of Portland, Spaulding & Eveleth be a committee to receive & examine the returns of the members of this House, & report a list of the names of such as appear to be duly returned with the number of the seats they respectively occupy in the House - read & passed.

[Rules & orders]

Ordered that Messrs Isaac Adams, White of Monmouth & Dane of Kennebunk be a committee to prepare & report a system of rules & orders for the government of this House the present year, & that in the mean time the system adopted the last year be provisionally observed - read & passed.
