and eighty one Resolves being all that he has had presented to him for signature the present Session. I am further directed by the Governor to inform the House that he has no further communication to make the present session' - and then the Secretary of State withdrew.

Mr Isaac Adams of Portland after a few prefatory remarks laid upon the Clerks desk the following Resolution - Resolved, that the thanks of this House be presented to the Hon. Benjamin Greene for the very prompt, impartial, dignified and satisfactory manner in which he has performed the duties of the chair, the present session, and that this testimonial of the approbation of the House of Representatives be entered upon its journal - The same was unanimously passed.

The Speaker then rose and replied as follows. Gentlemen of the House of Representatives, The duties connected with the honorable station to which you were pleased to elevate me at the commencement of the session, I have endeavored to discharge with impartiality, and in other respects with correctness to the utmost of my ability - and however great may have been my exertions, they are abundantly rewarded by the resolution which you have so kindly & unanimously passed - To have had the honor of presiding in the deliberations of so intelligent, well informed & independent body of freeman as compose this branch of the Legislature of Maine, will ever be regarded by me as the most distinguished period of my life - and the approbation of such men, is the most gratifying compensation which can be awarded to any services of mine. I receive this expression of your approbation with the deepest sense of gratitude - and the gentleman who has so feelingly
