A communication was received from Charles Hutchings Junior, a Counsellor elect, signifying his acceptance.


Reports, on the order of 8th Jany inst. respecting payment of Highway taxes in certain cases in money [hyphen} on the order of 9th Jany inst. respecting Pound Keepers fees that legislation on those subjects is inexpedient, came from the Senate accepted for concurrence & the house concurred.

A message was received from the Senate by Mr Hutchinson their Secretary, proposing a convention forthwith in the Representatives Chamber for the purpose of qualifying Charles Hutchings Junior, Counsellor elect and the House concurred & the clerk was requested to reacquaint the Senate therewith.

Agreeably to the foregoing assignment the two houses assembled in the Representatives Chamber when Charles Hutchings Jun Counsellor elect, came in & took and subscribed the oaths required by the constitution to qualify him to enter upon the discharge of the duties of that office.

Petition of Caleb Jewett & al came from the Senate, that body nonconcurring the House in referring the same to the committee on State Lands & referring the same to the committee on so much of the Governor's speech as relates to the Canal Road for concurrence - and the House concurred.

Petition of the Trustees of Waterville College for a continuation of the former grant to that institution, came from the Senate referred to the committee on Literature &Literary Institutions for concurrence - and the House concurred.
