to organize, govern and discipline the militia of this State with leave +e read and passed. Sent up for concurrence.

Bill to divide the town of Edgecomb and incorporate that part thereof known by the name of Jeremy Squam Island, as a town by the name of Westport, was read a third time + passed to be engrosed. Sent up for concurrence.

On motion of Mr Whiting of Whiting, Ordered, that the committee on Finance be directed to consider the expediency of making an abatement of so much of the State tax on the town of Whiting, as was through mistake, taxed to said town for land belonging to the State of Maine. read and passed.

On motion of Mr Vance of Baring, Ordered, that Messrs Vance of Baring, Mitchell of Freeport

+ Todd of Georgetown be a committee to take into consideration the expedien

cy of altering the law so far as to prevent the sale of any spirituous liquors or holding auctions at any toll Bridge in this State where there is a public house within half a mile of such Bridge with leave to report. read and passed.

Bill additional to an act setting off Isaiah Jenkins + others from the town of Litchfield and annexing them to the town of Wales, was read a 1st + 2nd time and tomorrow at ten oclock assigned for a 3rd reading and referred to the committee on Finance.

Resolve providing for the establishment of Libraries and the promotion of Education, was read once and Monday next at ten oclock assigned for a second reading.

Petition of Samuel Pierson of Saco + Biddeford for a grant of land to support Bridges " of Thomas Cutts for an act incorporating the Proprietors of Kittery Point Bridge were severally read and referred to the committee on Turnpikes, Bridges + Canals. Sent up for concurrence.
