Should Mr Cushman be in Houlton he will make the complaints if he should not be if you will send me some blanks I will get Mr Bartlett to [?] the complaint here, I have asked the favor of Mr Packard to appoint Mr Pattee of your [?] to take the place of Maj. Thompson who has gone out. I wish to have a writ made against one James MacIan[?] of your county and his right to certain mills & lands on the Great Machias is No 15 -5 range attached for the sum of $210 – The circumstances of the case are there[?] he bought of a settler a lot of timber below the boom and carried it away which property belonged to the state cut or stolen by the man who sold it.

Should the men who took [?] [?] for us from Houlton conclude not to haul[?] them further will you be so kind to send me word by Mr Pattee on his return

Sir

Mr Johuson[?] has been at work here for some time as [?] workman on the block house &c here which duty he has faithfully and well performed. No special bargain was made by Col. Jarvis when Mr Johuson[?] came in and I know of no better way to get at his compensation that by reference to those in Stillwater for whom he was worked as he is well known their [there]. If you think best I should like to have Mr Johuson[?] return to build the hedges[?] between here and Houlton as he is perfectly conversant with that business

Mr Isaac[?] Sanborn & John Nottage[?] who came in with Mr Johuson[?] were engaged also by Col. Jarvis but no – compensation agreed upon they have worked with Mr Johuson[?] and have worked well. The labor performed by them is simular [similar] to the work of the first rate men on the boom
