Messrs. Dunlap, Prime and Green were then appointed a Committee to prepare and report a set of Rules and Regulations for the government of the Senate, the present year.

[Returns of Votes for Senators]
The Secretary of State came in and laid on the Table the Returns of Votes for Senators in the several Counties; and they were on motion committed to Messrs. Green, Dunlap, Prime, Whitney and Parlin.
[Messenger chosen]
The Senate then proceeded to the choice of a Messenger; the whole number of Votes given were 19, all of which were for John Merrill and he was declared elected.
[Assistant Secretary]
On motion of Mr. Dunlap Ordered that the Secretary of the Senate be authorized to appoint an Assistant to aid him in the discharge of his various duties: and Nathl. G. Jewett was then appointed Assistant Secretary of the Senate.

The Secretary of State then came in and laid on the table the Returns of Votes given in the several Towns and and Plantations in this State for Governor when
