46. Message from the Governor. "Gentlemen of the Senate and of the House of Representatives It has become by duty to inform you of the death of the late Major General John McDonald of the first Division of the Militia. I improve the opportunity to express my deep regret at the loss which the State has sustained, and to add, as a just tribute of respect to the character of the deceased, that he was esteemed as a most meritorious officer. Very Respectfully Enoch Lincoln." Portland January 11th 1827 The foregoing message was read and sent up.

Ordered that the Senate be requested to send to the House the report of the Commissioners appointed by the Governor & Council to examine into the doings and transactions of the several incorporated Banks in this State - read & passed. Sent up.

An order came from the Senate for concurrence directing that the committee on the State prison be authorized to purchase at their discretion, a number not exceeding three hundred of the first annual report of the Board of Managers of the Prison Discipline Society, to be placed at the disposition of the Legislature & the House concurred.

Ordered that the Committee on Contested Elections be directed to inquire whether the member from District number seven in the County of Washington, composed of Robbinstown, Perry, Calais, Charlotte, Baring, Houlton, plantation, Number seven and Limerick is duly elected and returned & entitled to a seat in this House - read & passed.

Report on the petition of John Thompson & als, granting an order of Notice came from the Senate accepted for concurrence and the House concurred.
