Bill - establishing Workhouses in the several Counties was taken up and refused a third reading

Bill additional to an act concerning the assessment & collection of taxes, was read a third time & passed to be engrossed as in new draft. Sent up for concurrence.

On motion of Mr Smith of Newfield, Ordered that the committee who have under consideration the subject relating to Sheriffs, be instructed to report a Bill providing a reduction of fifteen per cent on collection fees - to prohibit the Sheriffs from taking from his deputies any sum exceeding ten per cent on all collection fees - to fix the daily allowance of the Sheriffs while attending Court at three dollars per day - and also to make such general provisions as shall be necessary to make the system conform to this order - read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.

On motion of Mr Shaw of Wiscasset, Ordered that Messrs Shaw of Wiscasset, White of Standish & Goodwin of South Berwick be a committee with such as the Senate may join to inquire into the expediency of repealing the Act of March 7th 1826 exempting certain goods & chattels from attachment & execution - read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.
