217. Tuesday, February 24, 1835.

Mr. Bartlett, from the Committee on Incorporation of Towns, reported leave to withdraw on petition of John Bowers and others, and Alpheus Hayden and others - read and accepted. Sent down for concurrence.

Mr. Tobin, from the Committee on Turnpikes Bridges and Canals, reported leave to withdraw on petition of Israel Herrin and others, and Johnson Lunt and others and Directors of Sugar Island Boom Corporation - read and accepted Sent down for concurrence.

Mr. Prescott, from the Committee on Claims, reported leave to withdraw on petition of inhabitants of Vinalhaven, Thomas C. Jonas & Elisha Hilton; and legislation inexpedient on an order relative to the claim of the town of Castine against the State for support of William James a pauper and foreigner - read and accepted. Sent down for concurrence.

A message was received from the Governor informing both Branches of the Legislature that a vacancy now exists in the office of Major General of the second Division of that Militia of this State, occasioned by the resignation of Major General, Alfred Marshall - read and sent down.

Bill additional regulating Elections was read the second time, sundry amendments proposed and adopted, and the question of passing the same to be engrossed, as amended, being order to be taken
