Messages were received from the House of Representatives, informing the Senate that the House had on their part elected the Hon. John Ruggles to fill the vacancy in the Senate of the United States occasioned by the resignation of the Hon. Peleg Sprague, and requesting the concurrence of the Senate. and also, That the House had, on their part, elected the Hon. John Ruggles, Senator in the Congress of the United States for six years from and after the third day of March next, and requesting the concurrence of the Senate.
Resolve, relating to the election of Senators, (laid upon the table by Mr O'Brien) was read once and tomorrow at ten o'clock assigned for a second reading.
On motion of Mr. Tobin, Ordered, that tomorrow at eleven o'clock in the forenoon be assigned for the choice of a Senator to fill the vacancy in the United States Senate occasioned by the resignation by Peleg Sprague, and also for the choice of a Senator to serve six years in the United States Senate from and after the third day of March next, - read and on motion of Mr Tobin committed to Messrs. Tobin, Emmons and Smith.
