Bill - an additional act directing the method of laying out and making provision for the repair and amendment of Highways, was read a third time and passed to be engrossed. Sent up for concurrence.
On motion by Mr. Cilley of Thomaston, Ordered, That the joint standing committee on the State Prison, be instructed to ascertain, as near as may be, what amount of the long list of demands appended to the report of the committee appointed under Resolve "inspecting the State Prison" has been paid since the 31st day of Oct A.D. 1833, and also whether or not said demands were actually due to the State on said 31st day of October 1833" without reservation, free and unencumbered" & what proportion of said debts, if due, are bad, & also what demands have accrued to the State since Oct 31st 1833 & up to Oct 31 1834 & by whom due, & also what amount & to whom the State was indebted on account of the Prison on the 31st of October A.D. 1834 & also to ascertain & report by what rate the stock in hand is estimated at the beginning & end of each year, & by whom the estimation is made, with power to send for persons & papers. Sent up for concurrence.
On motion by Mr. Chase of Sebec, Ordered, That a joint special committee to consist of the delegation in the House and Senate, from the County of Penobscot be instructed to inquire into the expediency of passing a law requiring the use of Broad rimmed wheels in said county. Sent up for concurrence.
On motion of Mr. Burleigh of Dexter, Ordered, That the joint standing committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of providing by law for the repair & maintenance of roads, laid out on town lines. Sent up for concurrence.
