Bill - to incorporate the Penobscot Bank was read 1st & 2d. time & Monday next at 10 oclock assigned for a third reading.
Resolve authorizing a part of the School fund to be distributed among certain towns & plantations was read a 3d. time and passed to be engrossed as amended. Sent up for concurrence.
The committee to whom was referred the Order to enquire whether any members are absent longer than are allowed by the Rules & Orders of this House, reported that they had made some progress and requested an addition of two members upon said committee &c and Messrs. Hegan of Prospect & Woodman of Buxton were appointed and the report accepted.
Agreeably to assignment, the House of Representatives proceeded by ballot to the election on its part of a Major General for the fourth Division of the Militia of this State. The whole number of ballots given in was One hundred & twenty nine - necessary to constitute an election sixty six - Benjamin Burgess had seventy three votes, and was declared elected on the part of the House - The House then proceeded by ballot to the election on its part of a Major General for the eighth Division of the Militia of this State. The whole number of ballots given in was One hundred and twenty three - necessary to a choice sixty two - No person having that number the House proceeded to take a second ballot - The whole number given on a second ballot was One hundred & thirteen - necessary to a choice fifty seven - no person having that number, and no election having been effected, on motion of Mr. Holmes of Alfred
Ordered, That Tuesday next at 11 o'clock be assigned to take a third ballot.
