On motion of Mr. Bartlett, Ordered, that a message be sent to the House of Representatives and also to the Governor and Council, informing those Branches respectively that in consequence of the absence of Josiah Pierce Esquire, President of the Senate, the Senate have elected Anson G. Chandler, President pro tem -- which messages were delivered by the Secretary.

On motion of Mr. Miller Ordered, that the Joint Standing Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of increasing the fees for the attendance of witnesses who shall be summoned to attend Courts held by Justices of the Peace -- read and passed. Sent down for concurrence. Concurred.

Order from the House of Representatives instructing the Committee on the Judiciary to inquire into the expediency of enacting a law to authorize and require the Selectmen of the several towns in this State to erect on the corners and lines of said towns sufficient Stone monuments where the same are not now established by water -- read and passed, in concurrence.

Order from the House of Representatives instructing the Committee that have under consideration the salaries of the Clerks of Courts to inquire and report whether any, and if any, what alteration is necessary to be made in the salaries or pay allowed to the Treasurers of the several Counties in this State -- read and passed, in concurrence.
