Dear Sir_ There is a man in this town by the name of Wm. Sawyer who says he has deserted from the U.S. army. I think he belonged in one of the [strike through] verm Vermont Regiments, but this is his native place, his father lives here. He threatens death to any one who attempts to take him. We think he should be taken back_
