I Oliver Leonard of Bangor in the County of Penobscot [?] do humbly testify & say that in the month of February 1779 I inlisted into the Revolutionary war in Capt.[P?] Eddy Company, Col Hathaways Regt. I joined my Regt. Tivertown R.I. at which place the Regt. went into winter quarters: In the spring of 1780, the Regt. marched to Providence; at this place I was in the Company of Capt. Simon Cobb: Gen. Gates had the Command at this time: in the month of October according to my recollection (I bring then a minor under my father,) I was discharged by a particular agreement between him & the officers and his Negro man Fortune [Mo?] by name was substituted in my place: I continued in actual service One year & Eight months: I never had any written discharge to my recollection: I am now under reduced circumstances & need the assistance of my Country for support.
