To the Hon. Lot M. Morrill Governor of the State of Maine

Dear Sir i have been unfortunait and lost the use of my left hand and have a large family to support and am desirous of obtaining the agency for the Passamaquoddy tribe of Indians as the the Salary would be a great help to me as i am verry poor, i am well aware that there are others seeking for the same office but i do not think in fact i do no there are none so needy as my self. I think i am as competent as some of the others. I have long thought that it would be wisdom to have An agent that would go in among the indians procure teams and assist them in farming as eventually they must turn there attention to farming i should expect to spend the most of my time to encourage them to woork on the soil, The representative of the indians doubtless is in favour of Mr. Gorden as I heerd a gent of the city of Calais say the other day that Gorden had hired him to go for Gorden and it is said by some of the indians that the present incumbent gave the representative forty dollars last year to go for him, these things i not pretend to vouch for i barly name them to show that if this be the case that it is verry wrong, there may seem to be an objection that i live out of way but Sir i will put my self in the way for if i devote all my time in the business it will pay me double what I can earn any other way
