To His Excellency Hannibal Hamlin Governor of the state of Maine

The undersigned republican voters of the town of Pembroke respectfully & earnestly request the appointment of Mr. George H. Welch of Perry as agent for the Passamaquoddy tribe of Indians.

Mr. Welch by his prompt & correct business habits & integrity of character is well qualified to discharge the duties of the said office & we believe his appointment would give more general satisfaction than that of any man & thereby the state would secure the services of a honest man & valuable officer.
