to, and received by the Senate, & the following entry is made on their journal" a message was received from the House requesting the Senate to send down the original report of the joint committee on the petition of Philip Morrell & als, & an answer was returned, that the Senate had already sent to the original report by them requested - This answer being received in the House the following order was passed - "Ordered that a message be sent to the Senate informing that body, that the members on the part of the House of the joint committee on the petition of Philip Morrill & others inform the House that said joint committee did agree & report that the petitioners have leave to withdraw their petitions, and that the House repeat their request, that the original report may be sent down. - read & passed - Sent up" which message was delivered to & received by the Hon. Senate & the following entry is on their journal "Another Message was then received from the House yesterday, requesting the said report to be sent down - Whereupon the Senate "Voted, that the Senate take no further order on the subject" - but this vote is not entered upon the journal of the Senate. The Committee have particularly examined all the papers in the possession of the House on the subject of the division of the County of Hancock, & they cannot find the original report made to the Senate on the 18th inst. by Mr Usher Chairman of the joint Committee of both Houses, giving to the petitioners leave to withdraw their petition, which report was made to that branch of the Legislature on that day as appears by the journal of the Senate and the testimony of Mr Usher - and altho the Senate by their message to the House have announced that the Senate had already sent to the House the original report by them requested, still your committee upon the most strict enquiry cannot find such report, nor any evidence from the journals of the Senate that such report was transmitted to the House. The foregoing report was read and on motion it was thereupon Ordered, that said report be accepted, and entered at length on the journals of this House, and that a message be sent to the Senate acquainting them of its contents, by reading the same at
