Met according to adjournment.

The committee to wait on the several ordained Clergymen of Portland and request their attendance as Chaplains, reported that the Reverend Gentlemen would attend as such, and the Page was directed to notify them of their respective turns.

A communication was received from Amos Nichols Esquire signifying his acceptance as Secretary of State.

Messrs John G Dean of Ellsworth and John McKown of Boothbay, appeared, produced their credentials as members, were qualified & took their seats.

Ordered, that Messrs Francis, Goodenow, Small, Benson & Spring of Saco with such as Senate may join, be a committee to enquire what alterations, if any are necessary, in the several laws now in force on the subject of laying out and making highways, &c - read and passed - Sent up for concurrence.

Ordered that Messrs Pike, Deane, & Eastman be a committee to consider the expediency of making further provisions to the "act concerning Registers of Deeds" - read & passed.

[Message from Governor.]

A special message from the Governor dated Jany 8th 1825 on the subject of the Deaf & Dumb [see appendix page 223] together with sundry accompanying documents, came from the Senate referred to Messrs Stebbins & Holland with such as the House may join. The House concurred and Messrs Fessenden, Adams of Portland & Warren were joined.
