Mr Robbins of Union had leave of absence after tomorrow.
Bill additional to an act to secure to owners their property in Logs, Masts, Spars & other timber in certain cases &c was read 1st & 2nd time & tomorrow at 10 oclock assigned for a 3d reading & referred in meantime to Messrs Talbot of Machias, Boutelle of Waterville & Strout of Limington.
Ordered that the Committee on State Lands be directed to enquire if any and what alterations are necessary in the present arrangements for the sale of timber on the lands belonging to the Passamaquoddy Indians & the expenditure of money arising from the sale of the same - read and passed. Sent up for concurrence.
Ordered that Messrs Hathaway of Bluehill, Williams of Augusta and Dunn of Poland be a committee to consider what, if any alterations are necessary in the law defining the general powers & duties regulating the office of Sheriffs, Constables &c - read & passed.
Petition of Elijah Wood & als for a revision of the school laws, was read and referred to the Committee on New Trials. Sent up for concurrence.
Mr Dennison of Freeport obtained leave to be absent after Saturday next.
Resolve for the admission of Ephraim H Lombard to practise law in the Court of Common Pleas, reported by the Committee on his petition, was read and passed to be engrossed. Sent up for concurrence.
Report on petition of Abraham Osgood, granting leave to withdraw came from the Senate accepted for concurrence - and the House concurred.
Resolve in favor of Heman Nye, reported with an amendment at A which was adopted, was finally passed. Sent up for concurrence
