instructed to persevere in their undertaking, the regiment will be filled up immediately. If it is delayed, and new regiments are to be attended to before the old, I fear it never will be filled.

Pardon me for calling your attention to the subject. I would not do it at this time, but there has been a fatality about this regiment in regard to delays, and I feel that now is the time to fill it up.

When Charles last wrote to me he appeared in fine spirits and said the regiment had much improved in health, that he had about 600 good fighting men, that would make their march when called upon.
