[page 700] Ques. I believe that Mr. Phillips says that our institutions in this country are 50 years behind those abroad; should you say that the hospital as we have it now, they had abroad 50 years ago. Ans. I could not say, but I think that we are not up to their advanced state, from what I read and hear of them. Ques. Would you suggest my improvements in addition to what you have said, would you think that there ought to be more and a better class of attendants. Ans. I think it would improve the hospital to have more attendants. We made what was said to be a thorough examination, I was not on the committee, to correspond with different hospitals, and it was though that ours came up very nearly in comparison with these as to the number of patients to one attendant, but I still think it would be better to have more, and as far as much experienced as possible; some of them are old enough. Ques. Would you have trained nurses. Ans. I would, one on each side. Ques. Would you have a night engineer. Ans. Yes sir. Ques. That would keep the lodges from being cold. Ans. Yes sir.
