Has Mr. Sampson been there ever since you have. Ans. Yes, I found him there. Ques. Peter has been there ever since, working in the same way he is now. Ans. I think so. Ques. The work he has done. the wheeling of coal has been all done under one roof. Ans. Practically. The old coal shed was taken down and a new one built, but it remains practically the same; the wheeling has been from the storage shed into the room where it is consumed. The gas room was built in the summer of 1879; since that the coal has been wheeled through it; previously the same location was occupied by a coal shed and the distance was not quite so great. Ques. What opportunities have you had for seeing the engineer and Peter at work and for observing what the treatment of Peter by Mr. Sampson was. Ans. I should say it had been very complete, perhaps not so much so as if I had been watching that pair alone, but my business has been of such a nature that
