returned from the several cities, towns, and plantations in this State, is fifty four thousand, five hundred and eighty eight; that the number necessary to constitute an election is Twenty seven Thousand, three Hundred and Forty five; - Robert P. Dunlap has Thirty One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Thirty seven; - that Edward Kent has twenty two thousand, seven hundred and three;- that other persons have one hundred and forty eight; and that Robert P. Dunlap having received Eight thousand nine hundred and eighty six votes more than all other persons voted for, is constitutionally elected governor of the State of Maine, for the current political year. An the returns from Charlotte, Herrington and Wayne, the names of those towns were omitted in the body of the returns - but were given at the bottom on the inside, and also on the outside - the votes were counted. The returns from Lewiston and Ellsworth were dated "one thousand, eight hundred and six on the inside - on the outside" one thousand eight hundred and thirty six" - the votes were counted. It did not appear from the certificate on the returns from Rome and Hermon, that they were sealed up in open town meeting; but the votes of these towns were counted by the committee, the presumption being, that in as much as they were received, by them "sealed up" that it was done at the proper time.
