Repealed and replaced and name changed to Commissioner of Finance and Administration by P.L. 1953, c.265, § 1.

Duties--serve as principal administrative and fiscal aid to Governor; serve as budget officer and supervise development and execution of biennial budget; coordinate financial planning and programming of activities of departments for review and action by Governor and Council; constantly review administration activities of other departments and agencies; study organization and administration; investigate duplication of work and formulate plans for better and more efficient management and report periodically to Governor and, on request, Legislature; prepare and report to Governor or Legislature financial data or statistics required or requested by them; supervise and direct activities of the Department of Finance and Administration.

5.1--Committee to Study a Contributory Retirement System for Maine. Created by R. 1939, c. 85.

Duties--make a comprehensive study of the existing situation as it relates to compensation of officers and employees of the State so as to develop a suitable system of retirement compensation, contributory or otherwise.

Members--2 Senators appointed by President if Senate, 2 Representative appointed by Speaker of the House, and 1 citizen appointed by Governor to serve as Chairman.
