A composite coating with enhanced mechanical properties including high hardness and excellent wear resistance was produced by laser cladding of mixed Ni45 and high-carbon ferrochrome powders on an ASTM 1045 steel substrate. Different quantities, ranging from 10 to 50 wt.% of high-carbon ferrochrome powder were added to the Ni45 powder to investigate the effect of mixture content on the cladding performance. The microstructure of the coatings were examined using scanning electron microscope, and the wear resistance was compared using a wear tester apparatus among the different cases. Torin2 The results showed that the microstructure of the coating with 30 wt.% high-carbon ferrochrome content was mainly fine solid solution phase. With the increase of high-carbon ferrochrome content to 40 wt.% and above, cracks appeared on the cladding surface due to a large amount of chromium carbides formed during the process. The microhardness was enhanced remarkably by laser cladding the composite coating on the 1045 substrate, with 2.4 times higher than the hardness of the substrate when 30 wt.% high-carbon ferrochrome content was added. The best wear performance was achieved when the high-carbon ferrochrome content was 30 wt.%, demonstrating the smallest surface roughness and depth of wear marks. With further increased high-carbon ferrochrome content, microcracking and delamination were observed on the worn surfaces.Herbicide resistance in weeds is perhaps the most prominent research area within the discipline of weed science today. Incidence, management challenges, and the cost of multiple-resistant weed populations are continually increasing worldwide. Crop cultivars with multiple herbicide-resistance traits are being rapidly adopted by growers and land managers to keep ahead of the weed resistance tsunami. This Special Issue of Plants comprises papers that describe the current status and future outlook of herbicide resistance research and development in weedy and domestic plants, with topics covering the full spectrum from resistance mechanisms to resistance management. The unifying framework for this Special issue, is the challenge initially posed to all of the contributors what are the (potential) implications for herbicide resistance management? The goal of this study was to develop and statistically optimize the metronidazole (MET), chitosan (CS) and alginate (Alg) nanoparticles (NP) nanocomposites (MET-CS-AlgNPs) using a (21 × 31 × 21) × 3 = 36 full factorial design (FFD) to investigate the effect of chitosan and alginate polymer concentrations and calcium chloride (CaCl2) concentration ondrug loading efficiency(LE), particle size and zeta potential. The concentration of CS, Alg and CaCl2 were taken as independent variables, while drug loading, particle size and zeta potential were taken as dependent variables. The study showed that the loading efficiency and particle size depend on the CS, Alg and CaCl2 concentrations, whereas zeta potential depends only on the Alg and CaCl2 concentrations. The MET-CS-AlgNPs nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and in vitro drug release studies. XRD datashowed that the cryS-AlgNPs nanocomposites was found to be governed by the second kinetic model (R2 between 0.956-0.990) with more than 90% release during the first 50 h, which suggests that the release of the MET drug can be extended or prolonged via the nanocomposite formulation.Eu3+ doped Ba2MgWO6 (BMW) double-perovskite was successfully synthesized for the first time by the co-precipitation method. The synthesis procedure, crystal structure, as well as morphology of obtained samples are presented. Domination of the 5D0-7F1 magnetic-dipole over forced electric-dipole transitions in the emission spectra indicates that Eu3+ ions are located in the high symmetry site with inversion center. Only one emission line assigned to the 5D0-7F0 transition was observed, confirming that europium substituted for only one host cation site. The photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectrum is dominated by a strong and broad band related to the O2- → Eu3+ and O2- → W6+ charge transfer. The decay of the emission from the 5D0 and 5D1 levels was investigated. The temperature-dependent emission spectra showed that the T0.5 is equal to 350 K. Extinguishing mechanisms of the Eu3+ luminescence in the studied host are discussed.Exposure of polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA)-rich culinary oils (COs) to high temperature frying practices generates high concentrations of cytotoxic and genotoxic lipid oxidation products (LOPs) via oxygen-fueled, recycling peroxidative bursts. These toxins, including aldehydes and epoxy-fatty acids, readily penetrate into fried foods and hence are available for human consumption; therefore, they may pose substantial health hazards. Although previous reports have claimed health benefits offered by the use of PUFA-laden COs for frying purposes, these may be erroneous in view of their failure to consider the negating adverse public health threats presented by food-transferable LOPs therein. When absorbed from the gastrointestinal (GI) system into the systemic circulation, such LOPs may significantly contribute to enhanced risks of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs), e.g. cancer, along with cardiovascular and neurological diseases. Herein, we provide a comprehensive rationale relating to the public healts of dietary LOP intake.Internet of Things (IoT) is a promising technology that uses wireless sensor networks to enable data collection, monitoring, and transmission from the physical devices to the Internet. Due to its potential large scale usage, efficient routing and Medium Access Control (MAC) techniques are vital to meet various application requirements. Most of the IoT applications need low data rate and low powered wireless transmissions and IEEE 802.15.4 standard is mostly used in this regard which offers superframe structure at the MAC layer. However, for IoT applications where nodes have adaptive data traffic, the standard has some limitations such as bandwidth wastage and latency. In this paper, a new superframe structure is proposed that is backward compatible with the existing parameters of the standard. The proposed superframe overcomes limitations of the standard by fine-tuning its superframe structure and squeezing the size of its contention-free slots. Thus, the proposed superframe adjusts its duty cycle according to the traffic requirements and accommodates more nodes in a superframe structure.
